Carrots are a safe and healthy treat for most horses when fed in moderation as part of a balanced diet. They offer several nutritional benefits but should not replace a horse’s primary forage intake.

Other Nutrients: They also contain potassium, magnesium, calcium, zinc, and iron.

Health Conditions: Due to their natural sugar content, carrots should be limited or avoided in horses with metabolic disorders, such as laminitis, insulin resistance, or Cushing’s disease.

Vitamins: Carrots are rich in beta-carotene, which the horse’s body converts into vitamin A. This vitamin is essential for good vision, immune function, and healthy skin and coat.

Other Nutrients: They also contain potassium, magnesium, calcium, zinc, and iron.

Carrots should be a supplement or treat, not a main food source. For a healthy adult horse, 1 to 2 kilograms per day is generally considered safe. For ponies or smaller horses, a smaller amount (around 1-2 individual carrots a day) is better.
